NATIONAL CONFERENCE SCHOLARSHIPS

Each year there is a national AOSA conference hosted in various cities across the nation. Scholarships to attend the national conference are available on a regular basis. We are pleased to announce three $500 scholarships for the 2021-2022 school year for Levels training or National AOSA conference attendance.

Here's what previous national conference scholarship recipients have to say about attending the national conference.

I teach elementary music in Meadows Valley, a tiny school district in rural Idaho. Using the Orff method of teaching, my students become more engaged in music. I was thrilled to receive this scholarship. National Orff Conventions totally energize my teaching and give me so many ideas to incorporate into my music instruction. It is wonderful to network, and to buy instruments and music books at the various vendor booths. The numerous Early Childhood sessions this year were invaluable since I also teach early childhood education. I will use the movement, songs, and techniques when I teach four and five year olds at the Arts and Humanities Creative Campus this summer. I also took a session on teaching senior citizens and plan to bring a music program to a senior facility in the future. This amazing experience will help me to be a better teacher. Thanks again!

Attending AOSA Nationals in Salt Lake City this year was an amazing experience with classes in variety all using the Orff-Schulwerk approach with music, movement, drama and speech. It’s an inspiring way to teach that the children relate and is very natural. Not only have I included this approach in my classroom but also in other areas in my personal life where I work with children. One class that I attended was teaching children with Autism. Other classes involved music around the world. It is good for children to be exposed to many cultures. More classes shared how to bring out creativity or about the Orff-Schulwerk way. My personal circumstances have suddenly changed this year to where I will be moving and going back to school. I look forward to using what I have been taught and experienced. Thank you!

Attending the National Conference for the American Orff Schelwerk Association this past November was an unforgettable and inspiring experience, to say the least! The information given in each of the sessions I attended opened my mind to the vision of Orff Schelwerk. For three days, I was given new knowledge and skills that would help me better meet the needs of my students and colleagues. As a District Elementary Music Coordinator, it was important to me that I internalize and learn from each session that I attended at the AOSA conference. I came home with a plethora of ideas, with which I immediately went to work notating, reviewing, and internalizing for future use in lessons and PLC training. This new knowledge and information will not only reshape my own music classroom approach but will potentially help guide the
elementary music teachers I mentor as well. I am left with feelings of gratitude and excitement when I think of how my district, who is new to the Orff approach and very recently came back from a period of time without elementary music, will benefit from the investment Idaho Orff has put into us. I will continue to work to bring this great philosophy to the classrooms of our area, actively seeking out the Orff levels training to effectively educate myself and my colleagues and to best meet the music education needs of our students. Thank you, Velma Allen and Idaho Orff!
