President: Shannon Hotchkiss

      Shannon came to Idaho to attend Northwest Nazarene University where she graduated Summa cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music degree in education, pedagogy and performance.  Shannon began her classical piano training at the age of seven, and began singing and playing the clarinet shortly after.  She has had a varied performance history including a European band and choir tour, competitions, personal concerts and playing in the Boise Philharmonic.  Shannon has taught jr. high band, elementary band and orchestra, and elementary general music in the Nampa and West Ada School Districts. She is currently the elementary music specialist at Idaho Arts Charter School.  She has written several musicals for the elementary school level, each performed by around 200 students at the Nampa Civic Center and the NNU Brandt Center.  Shannon earned her Master’s degree from Lesley University in Integrating the Arts in the Classroom in 2011, and has completed Level I Orff Certification through BSU.
    
Shannon received the Teacher of the Year Award from Eastside Elementary in 1992, and again from Ronald Reagan Elementary in 2009 as well as the 1989 NNC Student Teacher of the Year.  She has served on several leadership committees, the NSD Financial Recommendation Committee and has served on the IOSA Board as a member at large and has presented at winter workshops.

Shannon is the proud mother of 2:  Nathan is an accomplished drummer who works as a salesman.  He is married to Emily and Shannon loves being “Grandma Kiss” to their son, Liam.  Chris just graduated high school and is attending the College of Southern Idaho.  He is studying digital media and videography.

Taggart Lewis!

Taggart Lewis is currently teaching clarinet full time. He taught general music at Star Elementary from 2011-2017 and taught elementary orchestra in several schools. 
Taggart performs in Boise with Serenata Orchestra, Treasure Valley Concert Band and The Moody Jews, a local klezmer band. He chose to get involved with Orff when he needed credit and decided to take Level I and his life has not been the same since! Orff Schulwerk brings out the best in all of us and inspiring children through the Orff method is making the world a better place every day.

Hospitality Coordinator: Emily White

Emily White teaches orchestra in the West Ada School District. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s of Arts in Teaching degrees from the College of Idaho. Emily has completed Orff Schulwerk Levels I and II at Boise State University and loves the world of creativity these trainings have opened for her. She plays the viola in the Meridian Symphony Orchestra and coaches students at the Idaho Viola Camp each summer. Emily also enjoys hiking with her husband and dog, and practicing yoga. ​

Teresa has served on the IOSA board since 2008 as our Treasurer, Editor, and President respectively. Music has always been forefront in her life; from hosting a jazz radio show to singing in a rock-n-roll band, jazz groups, Boise Philharmonic Master Chorale, and currently, Marimba Boise. Teresa graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music degree and English minor from BSU. Teresa earned her Level I Orff Certification in 2003 from UNLV. In 2006, she worked on the Idaho Humanities Standards: Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Task Force. She also earned her Master’s degree from Lesley University in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on integrating the arts into the classroom in 2007. For her master’s thesis, she wrote “Vernon’s Army”, a children’s book about the importance of washing your hands. Teresa began her teaching career in the Nampa School District teaching elementary general music and honor choir. Her choirs received superior ratings at the Western Idaho Elementary Music Festival every year. Teresa received the Teacher of the Year award from Willow Creek Elementary as well as the Elementary Teacher of the Year award from the Nampa School District in 2010. She currently teaches in the Boise School District. Teresa is the proud mother of 3 children: Ross, who is working on his Doctorate in Philosophy from City University of New York; Connor, who is a screenwriter in Los Angeles; Kate, who is attending Kalamazoo College in Michigan.

Vendor Liaison: Beverly Schumacher

Beverly Schumacher has been a member of Idaho Orff for 33 years. She has served in about every office at one time or another.  She taught elementary general music in the Boise School District for 28 years.  She has provided sessions at various State MENC, State Orff, and district level workshops and conferences.  She directed a choir at her school for grades 4 - 6.  Beverly has her level one Orff Training and has attended many National Conferences. Bev just recently retired.

Falane Gerritsen teaches music at Hunter Elementary in Meridian. She holds bachelor's degrees in Flute Performance from the University of Akron and Music Education from Boise State University. She has been teaching Elementary Music and Elementary Choir since 2015. Falane types up the minutes during meetings for our chapter and helps wherever possible. Falane got involved with Orff after taking Levels I and II through Boise State University. She has two children, Anthony 8 and Jeannette 6. Falane enjoys camping with family and being with animals.

Teri Wallis has been teaching Elementary music for 18 years. Two of those years she taught K-12 music including elementary, band, and choir. Teri has certified in Orff and Kodaly and received a masters degree in teaching through the arts. She currently teaches at Birch Elementary school in the Vallivue School district.

Members at Large: Shirley VanPaepeghem

Shirley Van Paepeghem received her BA in music education from Boise State University and is currently working on her Masters degree in Integrating the Arts in the Curriculum through Lesley University. Her teaching experience includes secondary choral music, K-8 general music and private voice. Her area of teaching expertise is the young voice through adolescence. Mrs. Van Paepeghem is a Level Two certified Orff Music Instructor. She has been a guest presenter at both state and national music education conferences and performs regularly as a jazz vocalist. She is currently the Idaho President of the Orff Schulwerk Association for music educators and the Elementary Repertoire and Standards chair for the state chapter of the National Association for Music Education (NAfMe). During the summer, Mrs. Van Paepeghem teaches choral music at the acclaimed Young Musicians and Artistscamp at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, and at the Treasure Valley Vocal Jazz Camp. After 19 years in Bend, Oregon, the Van Paepeghem's returned to Idaho in the fall of 2003. Since moving back to Idaho Shirley has taught Music/Choir K - 12 at North Star Charter School in Eagle Idaho.

Members at Large: Dr. Lori Conlon Khan

     Lori Conlon Khan, Member-at-Large, Lori has taught Elementary General Music in the Boise School District for 32 years, taught undergraduate and graduate Music Education courses at Boise State and graduate courses for Lesley University's Integrating the Arts Masters program. She isn't certain what she wants to do when she grows up! :)

I have held the office of Region I Representative for the AOSA National Board (2012 - 2015), and am currently the Co-Chair of the AOSA 50th Anniversary celebration.
​I have children in New York, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles, and my husband, Ather, and I enjoy time together at our mountain cabin in Lowman

     Lori did Level I training at NNU back in the 90’s, and Levels II and III at UNLV in 2003 and 2005.  She also completed a Master Class under the tutelage of Jos Wuytuck at the University of Memphis in 2007, and is currently teaching the Movement sections of Levels training at Boise State.
